Art4u Pop Up exhibition and Sale
6th April 2018, Harris and Hoole
There will be art, coffee, cake and like-minded creatives, what more could you want? Simply arrive at 7pm and set up there and then. This is a low maintenance pop art exhibition, hoping to raise money for Art4U as well as the artists. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet and greet local artists in the area.
This is my first time helping organise an exhibition outside of Colchester School of Art. I suppose my role would be classed as 'assistant', helping Joe out in areas he needed. I made sure I arrived there early to arrange the furniture to create space for artists to rest/hang their artwork. They were all welcome to place their work where they pleased and if they needed help, myself and Joe would be happy to help. We only had one request from an artist, who needed her work especially hung up on the ceiling, which we easily done with cable ties. Afterwards, I made sure that I placed my own artwork up in a prime spot.
We were pleased with the footfall of artists and visitors and we believed everyone was quite pleased with the social aspect of the evening. A lot of artists came together and discussed their work and topics worth speaking about. Also, the work looked fantastic, the room was bursting with colour.
Myself and Joe, arranged a raffle and made cupcakes and tote bags to sell to people and we were very lucky to sell out of cupcakes and earn some money for the raffle, which goes towards the next Art4U exhibition ‘BROKE’. We sold some but not all of the tote bags. Which is great because we can use the rest of the tote bags for the next event. Unfortunately, nobody sold any artwork, but I kind of expected that for a first-time event. Some of the artwork was out of my price range, as I was very interested in buying a couple. I still believe everybody left with some more insight to what it’s like to try and sell artwork. We plan to host more pop up events like this in the not so distant future. I was great fun all round.
